WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY: Creed Business Park, Stornoway/ Market Stance, Isle of Benbecula

Description: Construction of new waste handling/ processing plant at Stornoway & Benbecula serving the whole of the Western Isles.
Key elements included earthworks, large RC Structures, office/ accommodation blocks, roads & services. A 25m x 8m high RC Digestor was constructed at the Stornoway site and included internal rotating paddles. Methane gas from the Digestor is used to power a generator making the facility self-sufficient

GISLA ROAD: Isle of Lewis

Description: A new two lane carriageway including the removal of 100,000m3 of soft and placing 300,000 tonnes of rockfil. Rock was won from cuttings using a drill and blast method which included one blast containing 700nr explosive charges- believed to be an all-time record for Scotland. The earthworks were completed over a 9 month period. The contract includes the construction of the new Gisla River Bridge

WASTE WATER TREATMENT WORKS: Isle of Lewis

Description: Extension of Stornoway WwTW to Secondary Treatment including the construction of RC Aeration Lanes, R.C. Final Settlement Tanks, Sludge Tanks and MCC Building along with associated buildings, roads, pipework, chambers and alterations within the existing works. This complex work was carried safely, successfully, to exacting standards and a tight timescale

LOCH NA CISTE: A859 North of Tarbert, Isle of Harris

Description: Construction of new road on an elevated and exposed site on the west side of the island. A cut & fill method was used to carve the road out of varying ground conditions of Lewisean Gneiss, Peat, Morraine and Clay.
