Company Background

UBC Group Ltd is a thriving construction and civil engineering company operating throughout the highlands and islands of Scotland. Established over 30 years ago in the Western Isles, the group has grown steadily to become one of the top companies in the region for quality, design and business philosophy.  Dynamic leadership and innovative working practices have enabled UBC to successfully complete numerous wide ranging contracts within the public, private and utility sectors.

History:

UBC Group Ltd, formerly Uist Builders Construction Limited, was formed in 1974 on South Uist as a family business, completing small works and maintenance contracts.

By 1980 the Company was able to diversify within both the construction and civil engineering industries throughout the Western Isles, and over the following twenty years built up a resilient business. These island projects included the construction of schools, colleges, houses, roads and water & sewage systems; a significant proportion of which were completed in some of the most demanding physical locations in the country.

With a secure foothold established in the Western Isles, attention was then focussed on the Highlands as the next area for expansion. The first mainland project undertaken was for North of Scotland Water Authority and was won as a result of the excellent relationship built up through previous successful contracts.

Having secured construction works on the mainland, the Group was able to enter the expanding Inverness housing market through a number of joint ventures, and have since completed highly accredited developments.

As well as these private developments the Company has built on the successful relationships it has established with local housing associations in the Western Isles and Lochalsh & Skye. As a result of this, affordable housing is an increasingly significant proportion of the Group’s workload in all areas of operation.
